Create a competition

A competition is the event itself: "Summer League 2026", "Spring Smash". It holds one or more divisions, its dates, a description and its own public dashboard.

Create one

1. From your dashboard press New competition.
2. Give it a name — the web address is derived from it automatically.
3. Set the dates. An end date is required; a start date is optional. If you give both, the end date cannot fall before the start.
4. Add a description. It supports headings, images, links and a call-to-action button, and shows on your public page exactly as the Preview tab shows it.

The end date is the one field you cannot leave blank, because it is what tells us when the event is over: it drives the wrap-up prompt below, and the Event Pass window. You can change it whenever the schedule moves — in the competition's settings — but you cannot clear it back to nothing.

Visibility

Every competition starts Private (only your team sees it). Switch to Link only to share with anyone who has the URL, or Public to be findable on search engines and our Discover page. You can change this at any time in the competition's settings.

Common questions

Free plan limits? Community orgs can run 10 active competitions at a time. Finished ones can be marked completed or archived to free a slot — and a competition covered by an Event Pass doesn't use a slot at all. Retiring a competition is what closes it: a completed or archived one takes no new divisions, and is closed to a new Event Pass.

Does a finished competition retire itself? No — nothing changes a competition's status on your behalf. Once its end date is more than a week behind, its overview asks an organiser which happened: the event finished, or the date moved. Both answers take one click — Mark it completed, or change the end date in the competition's settings. We ask rather than decide, because a status you never chose is one you would have to undo, while correcting an optimistic end date simply puts things back.

Can I add a division to a finished competition? No. Once a competition is completed or archived it accepts no new divisions: the wizard takes the details and then refuses with "This competition is finished, so no new divisions can be added to it." Restoring an archived division back into it is refused for the same reason. Nothing else about the competition changes — it stays fully readable, and everything already inside it is untouched.

Two ways on. If the event is in fact still running, set its Status back to Live (or Published) in the competition's settings and add the division — it counts against your active-competition limit again while it's active. If the event really is over, next season is a new competition (and it needs its own Event Pass).

Can I still buy an Event Pass for it? Only while it is running, or during the week of grace after the date it was due to end. A competition that is completed or archived, or more than a week past that date, is closed to a new Event Pass — the buy link disappears instead of leading to a checkout that would refuse the sale. Correcting the date puts the offer back on the next page load.
