Groups + knockout
Pools qualify their best into a bracket — the World Cup shape.
Entrants split into pools that each play a round robin. The top of each pool — top 2 is classic — cross over into a knockout bracket: A1 meets B2, B1 meets A2, so group winners are rewarded with the easier semi.
Everyone gets their group matches even on a losing day, and the finish is winner-takes-all. This is the default shape for most one-day multi-court events.
